Donald Voters’ Hypocrisy Begins to Show

Here on Medium and on other platforms like my YouTube channel, I’ve taken quite some flak from Donald voters who claim not to be one of THOSE Donald voters.

“I didn’t vote for racism! I didn’t vote for religious persecution! I voted for smaller government! I voted to end government corruption! I voted because Clinton is a lying criminal!”

Well, those voters are now showing their asses in a big way.

RACISM

Implicit in the claim that they “didn’t vote for racism” is that they don’t support racism and would fight it if they saw it.

Donald has now appointed Steve Bannon, an antisemite, as his Chief Strategist (that is, his propaganda manager). He has chosen Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, a man who was barred from a federal judge position because he uses the n-word and seems cozy with the KKK.

Now would be a good time for Donald voters to let their actions speak louder than their words. But after already having voted in a racist, it’s perhaps unsurprising that we don’t see an uproar from them as he continues to appoint racists to high positions in our government.

RELIGION

Donald’s policy platform presses forward with the Muslim ban, threatening government discrimination against Americans based on nothing more than their religion.

Those who voted for Donald have tried to insist they do not favor religious persecution, that they are willing to live and let live. Why, then, do they support such a grossly unconstitutional and morally repugnant act as a religious registry?

Before you say they “don’t support it,” let me clarify: they are not speaking against it. Their only action thus far has been to support it by voting for Donald in the first place (it was a prominent part of his platform). Therefore you can’t claim they don’t support it, just like Donald voters can’t claim to value religious freedom.

But perhaps this is not very surprising, when I have seen Donald voters who I was once very close to, state plainly that they would support the government shutting down a mosque if any member of that mosque were found to have a connection to terrorism.

Never mind that they do not make the same claim for Christian churches, even though Americans are more than seven times as likely to be killed by Christian terrorists as Muslim terrorists.

Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot that that number applies mostly to non-white Americans. Christian terrorists don’t tend to target whites. Though I’m sure that has nothing to do with why Donald voters don’t seem to fear such attacks.

SMALL GOVERNMENT

Republicans have wanted small government and fiscal responsibility for decades. Or they’ve claimed to, ever since Reagan made it part of his talking points (and then failed to deliver on his promise, greatly increasing the size of the government and being the first president to add more than a trillion dollars to the national debt).

In this election, the specter of “big government” was played by Obamacare, the dastardly, evil government healthcare plan that allowed more than 20,000,000 people to get health insurance while significantly slowing the rise of health insurance nationwide. Donald’s repeated promise: “Repeal and replace.”

And of course, now he’s much less certain he can actually do that, and seems to be hemming and hawing on whether he’ll repeal at all. But “big government” concerns don’t end there, and the much larger problem is neatly tied up in racism and xenophobia, because of course it is.

Donald promised during his campaign to deport 11,000,000 undocumented immigrants. Now, because he’s a serial liar, he’s walked that back to 3,000,000.

Donald never detailed, nor did his followers appear to consider, what such a task might mean. It would cost billions, and require a massive expansion of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Again the ghosts of internment raise their ugly heads: our immigration detention centers are worse than most of the prisons we put criminals in.

Can you claim to be “small government” while calling for a government force of tens of thousands of agents to go storming into people’s homes and dragging them out to be thrown into our modern internment camps?

CORRUPTION

Donald’s New Hotel.

Ivanka in meetings with foreign dignitaries.

The University Settlement.

His Deutsche Bank debt.

Donald’s achieved an unprecedented level of government corruption without even having yet set foot in office. He is setting the stages for grift, profiteering, and violations of the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution as we sit here and watch.

But I sure am glad he doesn’t have a private email server! He’s only taking phone calls with foreign leaders on a private and unsecured phone line.

And lest we EVER forget, Donald still refuses to release his tax returns.

You cannot claim to be against government corruption while supporting a candidate who is afraid to let you see the corruption lurking in his own bank accounts.

LYING CRIMINAL

See corruption above. Also see the fact that Donald founded his campaign based on half-truths and outright lies. Also see the fact that he’s walking back promise after promise, proving he’ll say or do anything for the adoration of the masses, but has no intention of delivering.

To those If you wanted a shake-up of the government, you’re not getting it—except in the worst possible sense of “destroying people’s rights.”

You’ve helped usher in a level of corruption we’ve never seen.

You’ve led to a greater increase of Islamophobic, racist, and misogynistic hate crimes than we saw even after 9/11.

And the man you put all your hopes in has shown he has no interest in fulfilling the promises he made to you.

I’ll take this opportunity to remind you: you’ve got an out. Speak against him. Resist his corrupt practices, his racism, and his blatant disregard for civil liberties.

Join those of us who will not tolerate a criminal in the White House.

Just tell us you were fooled by his lies and didn’t believe he’d actually act on the racism and xenophobia. We’ll likely give you the benefit of the doubt. Honestly I don’t care what you did—only what you do from here on.

But if you continue to voice support of Donald, you’re damn right I’m going to lump you in with every act of state violence, criminality and injustice that he brings about.

You already cast your vote for him. Until you balance that act out with earnest activism against his crimes, that’s the only mark on your ledger.

The only way to balance that account is to put in the work.
