Ignoring White Supremacy Doesn’t Make It Go Away
“Well, I didn’t hear him say that.”
It’s a phrase I hear all too often. Ever since 2015, when Donald began his bid for the Presidency.
There’s a cultural divide in America today. And to a degree, there always has been. But that chasm has become a bottomless gap we just can’t cross. Political disagreement is now an insurmountable barrier keeping friends and families at odds.
“Well, I didn’t hear him say that.”
I couldn’t understand it when I found out I had relatives who supported Donald. It seemed impossible.
These were people who had been kind and compassionate my whole life. They helped me whenever they could, however they could. And I saw them extend that same helping hand to countless others.
And now they supported this man?
This man who mocks the disabled?
Who calls for the violent beating of protestors?
An out-and-out racist?
An advocate for war crimes?
This misogynist?
A man who openly derides American institutions of democracy?
“Well, I didn’t hear him say that.”
